When Simon Papa and Marco Strega made music in the fall of 2008 something magical happened..great “pagan” music!..Actually, a mystical retelling of the genre as it were. With heartfelt lyrics pulsing from Simon’s compelling voice straight through a myriad of newborn melodies, sound-scapes new and old..textures pumped electric, alive! and all intelligently laced around solid rhythmic journeys and haunting solo passages, the ensemble that is Mater Dea, simply…rocks!

“Simon Papa and Marco Strega, two musicians with a very different artistic background, meet for a new project that has the purpose to revive their passion for the magic atmospheres of ancient music, blended with powerful rock beats. In their songs the flavour of natural elementals, marvellous creatures and fantastic stories carry the listener to a surreal dimension in which he gets in contact with the ancient cult of the Great Mother.
In their first album “Below the mists, above the brambles” the accordionist John Whelan appears as special guest in the beautiful ballad “Another trip to Skye” here reinterpreted with original lyrics written by MaterDea..”
