Recently, we’ve added to the Artist’s Galleries six watercolour paintings and drawings by Pamela Coleman Smith. Known by some as Pixie, she is the illustrator who worked with occultist Arthur Edward Waite. Together, they created what is to this day the most popular tarot card deck in the world. Indeed, her visual depictions of his divinitory symbolism have etched their way into the minds of millions since their debut in 1911. It was also in that year that Smith converted to Catholicism and to support herself established a vacation home for Catholic priests near her house in Cornwall. Smith illustrated many books and publications throughout her career including two of her own books, Widdicombe Fair and Fair Vanity. She also worked with William Butler Yeats and illustrated Bram Stoker’s last novel, The Lair of the White Worm. see also: Tarot Ecards Gallery.
