In gathering these, i am discovering noteworthy controversy as to whether or not Seattle actually spoke these quotes. There seems to be quite a dispute among historians that Seattle’s words were mistranslated by a Dr. Smith who in 1887 cited Seattle’s much earlier speech of 1855 when Duwamish, Snoqualmies, and Skagit tribes met with then Governor Stevens during the proposed Point Elliott treaty.
